Kayla John

Kayla M. John is a Brooklyn-born actor and performing artist known as Divine Lotus. Raised in a proud Guyanese household, her West Indian roots are the foundation of her artistry, shaping her rhythm, voice, and deep sense of community, spirituality, and expression. Guided by her faith in God, she brings a grounded, truthful presence to her work, led by instinct, emotional depth, and a strong connection to story.


She is a BFA Theatre Acting graduate of Brooklyn College (Class of 2026), with training in acting, voice, movement, and stage combat. Her theatre credits include Marcus; or the Secret of Sweet, Blood at the Root, and was blessed to be the Hair Stylist for the show FLEX. On screen, she has appeared in Bound, The Eye of the Beholder, and Peeking, and has also directed her own film work, expanding her voice as a visual storyteller.


In addition to acting, Kayla is a hands-on artist with experience in costume construction, hand sewing, and hairstyling, including braiding. This work informs her approach to character, grounding her in the physical life of each role and deepening her understanding of transformation from the inside out.


Kayla brings a natural, intimate presence with a strong emotional lens, allowing her to connect deeply within grounded, character-driven stories. She is especially drawn to work that lives in nuance and truth, where stillness, detail, and authenticity drive the performance. Kayla is known for her presence, versatility, and commitment to truthful storytelling. As Divine Lotus, she continues to create work that is rooted from the heart and deeply connected to culture, spirit, and expression.
